Sustainability Statement

The purpose of this policy is to outline the principles and processes that underpin the 2025 IAIR-IACCP Joint Conference’s commitment to, and demonstration of, environmental sustainability in relation to its activities and operations.

  1. The Conference Organising Committee is committed to the integration of environmental sustainability throughout all dimensions of our activities including planning, operations and management, and event delivery.
  1. The Conference Organising Committee is committed to reduce carbon emission by monitoring, reducing and where possible offsetting emissions associated with the planning and delivery of the event.
    1. All conference venues and recommended accommodation options are easily accessible by public transport, and we encourage all attendees to use public transport options throughout the conference.
    2. Printed copies (such as programs) and paper signage will be kept to the minimum.
  1. The Conference Organising Committee recognises the importance of protecting and respecting the natural environment and is committed to minimising pollution to land, water, and air.
    1. No bottled water will be provided during the conference. Instead, each attendee will receive a refillable water bottle, and have access to refill facilities.
    2. We are committed to environmentally sustainable waste management practices. Recycling facilities will be provided throughout the venues, and single use plastics and other materials that are difficult to recycle will be minimised or avoided.
    3. When possible, materials and food options will be sourced locally and sustainably to promote local industry.
    4. The conference will provide low carbon and diverse food options. While we will cater for varied dietary needs and requirements, we encourage attendees to proactively opt for low carbon food options, including vegetarian and vegan, when registering for the conference.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

  1. The Conference Organising Committee acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we are meeting. We acknowledge and respect the continuing connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to Country, the land, sea, sky and waterways. We pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and we extend this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in attendance at the conference.
    1. The conference is committed to increasing the representation of indigenous scholars and scholarship.
    2. Submissions of topics related to and supporting indigenous peoples are strongly encouraged.
  1. The Conference Organising Committee is committed to promoting an inclusive and equitable conference culture that welcomes, engages, and rewards all who contribute to the fields of cross-cultural psychology and intercultural research. The Conference Organising Committee is committed to promoting respectful and constructive dialogue to foster an environment where attendees can express their views and disagreements freely and in a non-threatening manner.
  1. The Conference Organising Committee condemns and prohibits discrimination, harassment, and bullying against any person for any reason.
    1. We encourage attendees to report such behaviour to a member of the Conference Organising Committee.
    2. Attendees of the conference are required to adhere to their member organisation’s code of conduct: IACCP code of conduct; IAIR code of conduct.
  1. The Conference Organising committee recognises that participants may have carer responsibilities and welcomes children, under the responsibility of their carer, attending the conference. For health and safety purposes, we ask any child attending to be registered as an accompanying person.
  1. The Conference Organising Committee is committed to treating the workforce fairly, including volunteers.
  1. The Conference Organising Committee is committed to creating a safe and accessible environment, and supporting the wellbeing of attendees, including those with special needs.
    1. We will ensure that the venue is accessible to all participants.
    2. We will ensure that sessions are accessible to all participants with considerations for lighting, sound, and diverse seating options.
    3. We encourage attendees to deliver presentations with considerations to accessibility, such as the use of accessible colours and fonts, and speaking slowly.
We acknowledge the Traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Owners of the land, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. Our meeting place for this conference is on the lands of the Turrbal and Yuggera peoples.
